Background:

The fund was established to honor the Hettinger Class of 1996 classmate, Ann Veitz.  She was an energetic, enthusiastic, caring, and giving friend to all she was around.  She always strove to do her best and was a good leader.  She excelled in Girl Scouts, earning The Gold Award, the highest award available.  She also earned awards in Band, Choir, and Science Fair.  She attended Dakota State University in Madison, SD, earning a BSE in Biology Education, a minor in music and several endorsements, including Physical Science, Vocal & Instrumental Music, Computers, Middle School English/Language Arts.  She continued her education by earning her Masters Degree while teaching in McLaughlin, SD.

Among all the gifts and talents Ann displayed, her best investment was her family.  It is because of the spark she placed within her classmates that this scholarship was ignited.  It is being provided for a student(s) who also demonstrates the drive and desire to exceed when presented with an opportunity.
